The Importance of being compliant with the New Companies House ID Rules for Directors & Persons with Significant Control

With effect from November 18th 2025, identity verification becomes a legal requirement. All UK Company Directors and people with significant control (PSCs) must verify their identity with Companies House.

This is part of the government’s efforts to increase transparency, prevent fraud, and ensure that information on the Companies House register is accurate and trustworthy.

This date marks the start of a 12-month transition period designed to give your company sufficient time to verify the identity of your Company’s Directors and PSC’s by their due dates. Regardless of this, you will not be able to manage any of your statutory future filings, such as the confirmation statement without this code, so submit your ID now and be ahead of the game.

What is the Companies House ID verification?

Each Director, PSC, or LLP member will need to verify their identity using the Companies House service (online, via app, or in person). Once verified, you’ll receive a unique personal code. This code identifies you, not your company, and must be used for certain filings and new appointments.

Who needs to complete it?

Company Directors (existing and new)

People with Significant Control (PSCs)

Members of Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)

Deadlines:

Whilst the 18th of November is not a deadline, it’s a good idea to complete this before then to avoid delays down the road when it comes to submitting your confirmation statement or annual accounts.

How to verify:

Use the Companies House verification service (online, mobile app, or Post Office).

Provide proof of your identity — this is about you, not your company.

Once approved, you’ll receive your personal code to use for future filings.

Use an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)

Penalties:

Failure to complete verification may result in fines, filing restrictions, or disqualification from acting as a Director.

Tip for business owners:

Make sure all current directors and PSCs are aware of this upcoming requirement and plan your verification early to avoid delays or penalties.
